Alganomics began in October of 2007 with the idea that algae are a valuable, untapped agricultural resource for many organic products, particularly feedstocks for biofuels. Encouragement from Randall Johnson of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center has played a significant role in our beginnings.

In April 2008, Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative (BEMC) provided initial support through an economic development grant.

In July 2008, we were one of the first companies in North Carolina to be awarded a North Carolina Green Business Fund Grant. This funding will allow us to create a demonstration site for algae production of commercial scale, using closed system photobioreactors.

In August 2008, Alganomics becomes the only distributor in North America for AlgaeLink and Cultivos de Algas photobioreactor algae culturing systems.
In September 2008, Alganomics and the Town of Oak Island form a collaborative partnership for the algae culturing system demonstration site to be located at the Oak Island Wastewater Treatment Facility. Phase I of the project will be a feasibility study with a small photobioreactor, utilizing nutrients from the wastewater of the facility. The impact of environmental remediation will also be assessed in this pilot study.

Alganomics is continually seeking collaborations for a community-based, grassroots effort to improve the quality of environment and life for us all.
